Breville Oracle Touch vs Jura E8 is a matchup of two super-automatic espresso makers with different design philosophies. I believe the Oracle Touch is better due to its superior brewing quality and customizability.
The Breville machine gives you more room for adjustment and a more authentic experience with a portafilter and a steam wand. It also offers a good range of programmability and automatic features.
Meanwhile, the Jura E8 will take care of everything for you at a lower price. A cappuccino will be ready in under a minute with just the push of a button. However, that means less flexibility.

Breville Oracle Touch vs Jura E8: Differences
In this comparative review, the Breville unit secures a 2-1 win thanks to its superior flexibility and brewing quality.
1. Coffee Flavor
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch
Though the E8 does its job well, the Oracle Touch scores the first point. This machine has a more flexible grinder, a better heating system, specialized pumps, and more useful technology.
The Grinder
It comes with a conical burr grinder with 45 grind settings. Its opponent has a similar grinder but with merely six settings. There is no doubt which grinder will help you reach your goal of coarseness more easily.
Heating System And Pumping System
For heating, it uses stainless steel dual boilers, one for extracting and one for steaming. Unlike the thermoblock of the Jura model, they let you pull a shot and steam your milk simultaneously.
Boilers cost more energy than thermoblocks and require more time to heat up. However, there is an auto-start function for you to start boiling water before you wake up, which a busy resident like me will value.
Corresponding to those two boilers are two pumping systems. The pump system for brewing has an over-pressure valve (OPV) to keep the extracting pressure at optimal.
The E8’s pump gives you the same capacity, which is 15 bars. There is only one pump and no OPV, though.
Brewing Technologies
To regulate extracting temperature, the Breville model equips its brewing boiler and head group with Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers.
This technology uses an algorithm to maintain the proper temperature at all times. It is way more consistent than thermostats, so you do not need to learn how to ride the heat waves.
PID controllers also let you adjust the temperature of the machine down to a single degree.
The Jura unit has advanced technology as well. Its Pulse Extraction Process (PEP) makes hot water run through your pucks in short intervals. According to the company, this helps get the most flavor and aroma from your ground.
It cannot help the E8 save this round, though. The Oracle Touch has more advantages, and all of them are tried and true.
2. Milk System
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch
The Oracle Touch’s milk system runs laps around its counterpart regarding milk quality. This steam wand has both an automatic and a manual mode.
With the automatic mode, you can program milk temperature and froth level. The wand will stop and purge when it is done. You can also use a manual texturing mode to practice or utilize your barista skills.
The milk system of the Jura model draws milk from a separate container and pumps out frothed milk. It allows you to adjust the temperature but does not have froth levels. Every milk-based drink has a default milk texture. There is no auto-purge function either.
The Jura’s hands-free frother is more convenient for beginners. But for home baristas, I recommend the steam wand of the Breville machine. It offers more control, and you can rely on the automatic mode too.
3. Ease Of Use
The Winner: Jura E8
The E8 is, of course, an easier bean-to-cup machine to use. There is no fiddling around with a portafilter and a tamper. You just need to prepare water, milk, and coffee, then push some buttons.
These buttons require a bit of press-and-hold to customize your drinks, but you can use the JURA Operating Experience (JOE) app to avoid this problem. I find this app even easier to use than the Breville touch screen.
The Jura unit can use both coffee beans and ground. To use coffee ground, choose the coffee ground mode on the control panel and pour the ground into the grinder bypass.
The Breville model does not come with a grinder bypass. If you want to use pre-ground coffee, you will need to find a tamper.
Its grinder is also harder to tune. You need to take out the beans and remove a few parts before adjusting the grind size. With the Jura machine, just turn a dial while the grinder is running.
4. Cleaning And Maintenance
The Winner: It is a Tie
One model will cost you more time at the sink, while the other will make you reach for your wallet.
Similar to commercial machines, almost every part of the Oracle Touch is up to you to clean manually. There are also a few more cleaning duties, including cleaning the shower screen, the grinder, and doing water backflush.
Cleaning the E8 is easier but requires more products. Besides powder for the milk system like the other unit, you will need cleaning tablets. The Breville has tablets for its filter baskets, but you will not need them if you clean the baskets regularly.
There is also an additional maintenance fee with the Jura model’s foam frother. Every three months, it requires changing the milk pipe and the milk spout.
