In the process of sorting out the ideal espresso machines for a small budget, I stumble upon Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155. And after taking into account all the features like the steam wand, espresso extraction, cleaning, and price, I can tell you that Delonghi ECP3630 will be the machine that you walk away with.

They both feature some fantastic technical details. However, EC3620 boasts of a stainless steel design and can hold up to 37 ounces of water. The steam wand also is slightly more advanced. It’s extraordinary that just for $100 more, you can upgrade the way you make espresso at home with the Delonghi EC3630.

The EC155, conversely, has a plastic exterior and is 2 ounces short in terms of its refillable tank. However, this machine is more lightweight, cheaper, and overall is good enough for consumers who only need a simple coffee maker.

Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155 – Differences

This is an easy battle for Delonghi ECP3630 and it wins by 4 to 0 against EC155. The material only already gives the winner a more sturdy look. Cleaning also is an easier job with Delonghi ECP3630. But when it comes to espresso extraction, you can trust both devices to do a good job.

Refillable Water Tank Size

A single shot of espresso uses 1-1.5 fluid ounces of water. And on average, an espresso drinker drinks 1-3 cups of espresso daily. That means the usage of 3 to 4.5 ounces of water daily for pulling espresso shots. This excludes the need for steaming the milk and dispensing hot water.

In the ECP3630, the water capacity is 37 ounces. That is approximately the size of a whole week’s worth of espresso and steaming. Even more, if you don’t drink espresso every day. Less refilling of the water tank means less cleaning.

The EC155, on the other hand, features a 35-ounce water tank. It’s relatively smaller but not too small. 2 ounces will shed a day’s worth.

Material

This is a significant difference that makes the most impact on this debate. The ECP3630 looks and feels more modern and sturdy because of its stainless steel build quality. EC155 is plastic and so there have been complaints with regards to its flimsy and noisy body.

For long-lasting durability, go for the ECP3630. It’s easier to clean as well since it’s stainless steel. Plastic attracts dirt, stains, and odor quicker. And so can look worn out very soon even if you don’t use it so often.

Drip Tray

There’s not enough room on the EC155 for a wider mug. The ECP3630, however, offers plenty of room for 1-2 mugs. The sturdy quality and wider base make less of a mess per cup. And with the hot water dispenser, you don’t have to worry about cleaning espresso splatters.  You can use hot water to quickly wipe the drip tray and the wall in between it and the portafilter.

Cleaning

It’s a breeze to clean the ECP3630. Since it’s already a well-made unit, the parts are easy to remove and rinse underwater.

The EC155 is a drag to clean. It requires plenty of maintenance. You have to detach all the important parts of the machine to check the interior.

So it feels as if I’m setting the machine all over again each time I clean which is not annoying considering that it works perfectly after that. But it just takes a long, long time. And you have to do it very often.
