Breville Nespresso Creatista Pro Vs Plus: Detailed Review & Comparison

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

In my opinion, the Breville Nespresso Creatista Pro vs Plus and other Nespresso Creatista machines by Breville are among the best pod-based machines. They are not cheap, but they are packed with features and functionality that you won’t find in other models.

The Creatista Pro and Plus, for example, both have a fast-lighting heating system, an excellent automatic milk wand, and a list of pre-programmed drinks. These features convincingly justify their higher price tag.

Still, the Nespresso Creatista Pro, which is better and pricer than the Nespresso Creatista Plus, boasts a double heater for multi-tasking, a very intuitive touch screen, and a separate faucet for hot water.

Breville Nespresso Creatista Pro Vs Plus: Differences

The Creatista Pro led the Plus 5-1. In this comparison, I will reveal all the differences and similarities between these two high-end pod machines!

Coffee Flavor & Brewing System

Winner: Nespresso Creatista Pro

Heating System

The ThermoJet heating system in these machines is a standout feature, offering incredibly quick heat-up times of just three seconds. This is a significant benefit for those who don’t want to wait around for their coffee machine to warm up.

However, the Plus comes with a single ThermoJet, which means you have to brew espresso and prepare milk in a sequential manner. This might not be a big issue for many, but it does require a bit more time if you’re preparing milk-based drinks.

On the other hand, the Pro is equipped with a double ThermoJet, allowing you to brew espresso and froth milk at the same time. This feature is particularly beneficial in scenarios where speed is essential, such as when preparing to leave for work or when serving multiple milk-based coffee beverages to guests.

It’s crucial to be aware that the double ThermoJet system is designed to operate with 220V power outlets, which are standard in many countries, including those in the European Union, the UK, and Australia. That also means that in countries where 120V power outlets are the norm, such as in North America, the double ThermoJet system’s benefits would not be accessible.

Plus, both machines are energy-efficient, automatically turning off their heaters after about 9 minutes of inactivity. This feature not only saves energy but also adds a layer of safety and convenience to the overall user experience.

Brewing System

They both boast a 19-bar pump pressure, which is more than double the standard of 9 bars. I’d say the higher bar of pressure makes sense since this ensures that you get the most out of the flavors packed in those tiny capsules. Just choose your favorite pod and pop it into the chamber. The result is a cup of coffee with a richer, more velvety crema on top of the coffee, which gets brownie points.

Design & Convenience

Dimensions & User Interface

Weight14.7 lbs11.4 lbs

These machines look very similar and are definitely the most attractive pod-based machines out there. They’re compact enough to fit anywhere, I promise, but to compare, the Pro is a bit taller, longer, and wider and has a large drip tray.

Both feature a brushed stainless steel finish, giving them a nice sheen. According to Breville, brushed stainless steel is the material used to make the machine, which is very durable, but you will find a few plastic parts.

They both feature an excellent TFT display, but this is where their paths diverge.

The Creatista Pro steps into the future with its touchscreen display, which is not only bright and visually appealing but also incredibly user-friendly. Imagine swiping and tapping your way to your perfect cup of coffee, much like you do on your smartphone. It’s intuitive and sleek, and it lets you scroll through options with the ease of a tech-savvy coffee aficionado.

Switching over to the Creatista Plus, you’ll find a smaller, non-touchscreen display. Instead of swipes and taps, you get to know a floating knob, which, let’s be honest, can feel like you’re turning the dial on a safe rather than making coffee. This can be a bit of a hassle, especially when you find yourself rotating it repeatedly to find your desired option.

Personally, I don’t mind the knob and button setup on the Plus, but if you’re all about embracing the latest technology in every aspect of life, the interface of the Plus might feel a bit archaic and the Pro might be more up your alley.

Spout Type & Cup Clearance

Both models have a pop-out tray that can be adjusted either in or out. When you’re in the mood for smaller drinks like espresso, ristretto, or lungo, you can pull the tray out to raise the cup closer to the coffee outlet, significantly reducing the distance the coffee has to travel from the dispenser to the cup.

That way, your coffee stays hotter for longer, and it virtually eliminates those annoying splashes.  And if you’re craving a larger drink, like a latte, all you have to do is push the tray in and place your glass on the drip tray.

Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper

They both can hold up to 12 used pods. The Pro features an oval-shaped tank, while the Plus’s tank comes in a cylindrical shape. It’s worth mentioning that the Pro boasts a water tank that is a whopping 33% larger than the one on the Plus. That means you’ll need to refill the Pro less often, which is also great for busy people who don’t want to keep refilling their tank often.

Milk Frothing System

Winner: Tie

An excellent way to enjoy your espresso is by adding froth milk, and this is where their swivel automatic frothing wands come in. Both also come with a temperature sensor under the wand to precisely froth milk. So you just place the milk pitcher on the temperature sensor, and the machine will create barista-quality milk foam.

When you opt for one of these two, you get a milk jug right in the box, which features a pour spout design specifically crafted for creating latte art. It indeed looks like the barista-style jugs you see in coffee shops, adding a touch of professionalism to your home brewing setup.

What’s more, the inclusion of the jug is a real money saver, as, unlike other espresso machines where you need to purchase a milk jug separately (yes, I’m looking at you, Jura), here you get everything you need right from the start.

And here’s a tip for getting the best results with the steam wand, something I’ve learned through my own experiences and a bit of research. To achieve the perfect froth, especially if you’re keen on trying your hand at latte art, you’ll want to use whole milk. This seems to be a universal truth for nearly all milk frothers.

One of the standout features that really sets these machines apart from other pod machines is their impressive range of pre-programmed drinks. Both models share seven one-touch drink options, but the Pro offers an additional option for making an Americano.

But hey, you can still whip up an Americano with the Plus model, but it requires a bit more manual effort: You’ll need to first make the coffee separately and then, to add hot water, you’ll have to lift the lever to dispose of the capsule. This is because, in the Plus, hot water is dispensed from the same spout as the espresso. That’s also why you might notice a yellow-brown tint due to coffee residue during the first one or two runs of hot water.

The Pro, on the other hand, features a separate dispenser for hot water, and there is a little water drop icon on the upper right-hand side of the screen. This is a cool feature since you’re in the mood for a cup of tea, and the last thing you want is a hint of coffee in it.

Programmability

Talking about personalizing your drink, both of these machines offer an impressive level of customization that I find particularly exciting.

You can choose from 8 different milk textures, 11 milk temperature settings, and a couple of drink volumes. This level of programmability provides a fantastic amount of freedom, allowing you to tailor milky each drink exactly to your liking.

Unfortunately, although you have an extensive range of options for adjusting milk, the same flexibility doesn’t extend to coffee.

Other Features

Winner: Nespresso Creatista Pro

Incidentally, the Pro allows you to save your personalized drink. But here’s the fun part – you get to name your creation. So, on a Monday morning, when your brain is as foggy as a San Francisco street, you just select “Monday Morning Cup of Joe,” for example, from the menu, or on lazy Sunday afternoons, you pick “Lazy Latte” for that perfect drink.
