Breville Oracle Touch vs Delonghi Eletta: Which one is better? Without further ado, the Oracle Touch is the better one, no ifs or buts.

The Breville Oracle Touch is a semi-automatic machine, but it is designed to operate like a bean-top-cup machine. I’m talking about it being able to do everything from grind and tamp to froth milk automatically. The machine does the job well, but baristas still have the opportunity to step in and take some control, such as frothing milk manually.

As for the old-fashioned Delonghi Eletta machine, just don’t expect to get many bells and whistles from this one. Anyway, it still has a built-in multi-level grinder, brews decent espresso and brew, and features a Crema automatic milk frothing system. For a lot of folks, that’s enough.

Breville Oracle Touch Vs Delonghi Eletta: Differences

The Breville Oracle Touch had a 5-2 victory. A semi-automatic machine beat a super-automatic machine! What the heck is this?

Coffee Flavor & Brewing System

Winner: Breville Oracle Touch

Built-in Grinder

Both the Oracle Touch and Delonghi Eletta use a built-in stainless steel grinder to crush the beans right from the hopper on top. This means you can skip the whole ordeal of hunting down a good separate stand-alone grinder, though that’s what a seasoned barista might go for.

The Oracle Touch offers up to 45 grind settings. That’s a lot of room to experiment, my friends! Unlike other Breville machines, this beast takes care of everything automatically – grinding, dosing, tamping – right after the moment you lock in its 58mm portafilter. You see, we’re practically at the doorstep of super automation with this one!

The Delonghi Eletta, just like its Delonghi siblings with built-in grinders, has 13 grind settings, enough for you to fine-tune your espresso to perfection. To adjust the grind size, just twist a knob right on top of the bean hopper and only do so while the grinder’s doing its thing.

Heating System

The Oracle Touch has two boilers, whereas the Delonghi Eletta features one – an extra vote for the former. Having two boilers can be a big deal if you’re on a roll making milk-based drinks one after another, which a single-boiler machine just can’t keep pace with.

Brewing System

Both are equipped with a pre-infusion feature. In the espresso world, we’re all nodding our heads in agreement that this initial pre-brew step is key to a perfect shot.

Pre-infusion involves soaking the coffee puck in hot water for a short time before extraction. That way, it prevents uneven extraction and is essential for developing a perfect aroma. And on that note, I rest my case!

Another espresso truth bomb is that pressure at around 9 bars is ideal for espresso extraction. So, the fact that both machines use a 15-bar pump is a good sign in my book!

Design & Convenience

Dimensions & User Interface

Weight37 lbs25 lbs

The Oracle Touch is the wider but lower option, while the Delonghi Eletta is narrower but taller. Give and take, both are most suitable for larger, open-plan kitchens. The Oracle Touch is significantly heavier, but there is a wheel system that will make moving it easier.

There’s a lot of plastic in the Delonghi Eletta, but there’s also plenty of stainless steel incorporated into the design, such as its drip tray and cup warmer. As for the Oracle Touch, it’s decked out in loads of stainless steel, and that’s a big win, at least in terms of build quality.

The Oracle Touch features a full-color touchscreen prominently featured in the center of the front panel. This cool panel waves goodbye to the clutter of buttons and dials you’d find on the Oracle, giving it this sleek, minimalist vibe. And don’t worry, it’s still super user-friendly.

The Delonghi Eletta, on the other hand, has a small text screen angled just right for easy viewing, and it’s surrounded by a bunch of buttons. Each one’s got clear icons and drink names, so you will know exactly what you’re pressing soon.

Spout Type & Cup Clearance

Spout TypeDualDual

The Delonghi Eletta has a height-customizable coffee dispensing spout, which is pretty standard on super-automatic machines. The idea behind this design is to ensure the spout is as close to the espresso cups as possible, reducing heat loss and avoiding disturbing the crema layer when dispensing. And when going up all the way, it provides enough space for most latte glasses.

The Oracle Touch does not have a height-customizable spout but provides enough space for an espresso cup. What’s more, its drip tray can be removed if you need more space for something bigger.

Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper

The Delonghi Eletta’s big water tank is seamlessly integrated into the machine from the front, so removing it to refill is very easy. The Oracle Touch’s bigger tank is also removable, but you can top it off right from the top of the machine. By the way, the Oracle Touch also has a nifty little window on the front to give you a heads-up on the water level.

I’m happy that these machines come with water filters. After all, preparing coffee with clean, filtered water really does have a positive effect on flavor, not to mention that this also cuts down on how often these machines need to be descaled.

Milk Frothing System

Winner: Breville Oracle Touch

The Delonghi Eletta can bring a one-touch cappuccino or latte macchiato to the table with its Crema system. This system includes just a 0.6-liter milk carafe that plugs into the left side of the machine and can go straight into your refrigerator with any leftover milk.

There is a froth dial on the carafe’s lid that lets you tweak the milk foam consistency across three levels. And then, when you’re done, just flip it to the “Clean” position, and the machine automatically flushes the pipe with hot water for hygiene. Pretty neat, huh?

The Delonghi Eletta also comes with a steam wand for those who prefer to steam milk manually. But honestly, it’s not a game-changer for your latte art ambitions, and you’ll probably only find yourself using it to dispense hot water for tea.

But the Oracle Touch’s automatic steam wand is a whole different ball game. It does a great job of automatically creating microfoam suitable for latte art and other milky concoctions. You can choose the desired temperature and texture for the milk foam, and the wand has a temperature sensor to keep an eye on the entire process.

The Oracle Touch’s wand isn’t just about automatically steaming milk – it also automatically purges itself for cleaning after you take out the milk jug and put the wand back in place. Then all that’s left for you is a quick wipe-down.

Of course, the Oracle Touch does not leave ambitious baristas out of the game. Its wand can also be switched to manual mode, allowing you to take control of the steaming milk process.

If you’re on the hunt for a super-automatic espresso machine that spits out every kind of specialty coffee with just a button push, you might want to look elsewhere.

The DeLonghi Eletta features dedicated buttons for cappuccino, long coffee, and more. Meanwhile, you can access and choose from a list of eight drink options via the Oracle Touch’s touch screen.

But hey, both give you delicious espresso and excellent milk foam. Moreover, there are a bunch of customization options for both the coffee and the milk foam. So yeah, you can totally craft your dream drink.

Programmability

Milk Foam TextureYesYes

The Delonghi Eletta allows you to adjust some settings on the fly, including coffee strength, shot volume, and brewing temperature, hidden in the menu. You can also control the consistency of the milk foam by turning the dial on the milk carafe.

As for the Oracle Touch, you can dial in the brewing temperature, shot volume, and the milk foam’s temperature and texture. You can’t tweak the dosage directly, but there’s a little workaround: head over to its tamping station and adjust the tamping fan height.

Other Feature

Winner: Breville Oracle Touch

User Profile

Technically speaking, neither the Delonghi Eletta nor the Oracle Touch come with a user profile feature. But here’s where the Oracle Touch gets interesting: it lets you save up to eight of your own custom recipes and you can name each one whatever you like.

Sure, it’s not the same as having a dedicated user profile, but let’s give Breville a pat on the back for this. It’s also a good way to prevent someone else’s preferences from influencing your favorite brews.

Removable Brew Group

The Delonghi Eletta’s bew group is detachable, which is an extremely good thing. Because this part is crucial, and being able to clean it directly means a lot more peace of mind. Plus, if it breaks, simply replace it instead of making costly repairs. If it ever breaks, you can just replace it, so there is no need to fuss over costly repairs.

Auto On

Another smart feature of the Oracle Touch worth mentioning is scheduling to turn on automatically. Yes, this machine takes somewhere around 15 minutes to heat up, but by having it turn on and warm up automatically, you can save those precious morning minutes.

Bypass Doser

The Delonghi Eletta has a chute bypass for pre-ground coffee, which comes and saves the day whenever you run out of whole beans or your guests crave decaffeinated coffee. You can also use pre-ground coffee with the Oracle Touch, but you will need to purchase the double-walled baskets separately.
