Gaggia Anima Vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Find A Convenient And Simple Espresso Machine For Your Apartment

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

In the debate of Gaggia Anima vs Philips 3200 Lattego, I have found the more convenient espresso machine for apartments: Philips 3200 Lattego.

Philips 3200 Lattego boasts of a stable brewing system that includes a potent and quiet grinder, a strong pressure pump, and an efficient heating system. As a result, the espresso quality is very impressive. This model also is equipped with the LatteGo milk carafe that helps froth microfoam with ease. I genuinely prefer and recommend this model for apartments.

As for Gaggia Anima, its design has left a very good impression. Overall, the espresso quality is excellent, and the steam wand is potent and efficient as well. However, it lacks many additional features that Philips 3200 has, which explains why I prefer the previous device.

Gaggia Anima vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Differences

Philips 3200 Lattego wins 3-1 against Gaggia Anima thanks to its more diverse set of one-touch beverages, a more automatic and powerful milk frother, and various cleaning alerts that aid me with the maintenance.

Coffee flavor: Tie

+Grinder

Gaggia Anima and Philips 3200 Lattego use ceramic burr grinders to muddle coffee beans, and so far, the performance has been very similar.

Firstly, both ginders are equally quiet. Thus, I believe both are perfect for users who live in an apartment in a shared building where loud noise isn’t allowed. Also, new parents can avoid waking their baby up when they simply need an extra dose of coffee with a silent grinder.

Secondly, the final grounds are pretty even. This is the essential aspect that a coffee grinder must deliver since it directly affects espresso taste. After a few months of testing Gaggia Anima vs Philips 3200 Lattego, I can ensure that both are good at delivering even and smooth ground.

Lastly, each machine has several settings to change the ground texture from fine to coarse. The difference is that with Gaggia Anima we have 5 grinder settings only, while with Philips 3200 Lattego, we can enjoy 12 different settings. More settings mean more variable organic espresso flavor. So maybe Philips 3200 Lattego’s grinder is slightly better.

+Heating system

Both models use a single boiler system to heat up water, so more or less, the performance is the same. Both take around 1 minute to finish heating up and ready to extract espresso.

There is a slight difference in the water temperature, though. Judging from the heat of the drinks, I can tell that Gaggia Anima delivers hotter cups than Philips 3200 Lattego. And 3200 LatteGo, even though it has decent temperature control, is more suitable for drinking right away.

If you usually are in a hurry, a machine like Philips 3200 Lattego is ideal. Gaggia Anima is a good pick if you want to enjoy hot and steaming espresso leisurely.

+Brewing technique

The pair uses a 15 bars pump pressure system to extract espresso. Judging from the velvety texture of the shots and the creamy layer of cream on top, I can tell that they work perfectly fine. I don’t have to set the grinder at high to get finer grounds for thicker crema. The pump pressure handles that nicely.

Milk System: Philips 3200 Lattego

There is a big difference between the foam textures of Philips 3200 Lattego and Gaggia Anima. I can get a drier and airier milk foam texture with the former device, which is crucial for making lattes and cappuccinos. As for the later device, the milk texture tends to be creamier, ideal for lattes and flat whites.

Also, if you are a beginner or simply prefer a super-automatic milk system that froths milk to the perfect airy texture for you, LatteGo is a real deal. I don’t have to interfere with the frothing process to achieve an ideal milk texture, all thanks to its carafe design.

With Gaggia Anima, I indeed have to manually handle the steam wand to get a perfect foam texture. As an ex-barista, I actually really enjoy the process. But, if you aren’t familiar with the steam wand concept or aren’t looking for a more manual system, this model might not be a suitable pick.

Utilities: Philips 3200 Lattego

Gaggia Anima is a fundamental machine that brews espresso or lungo only. For users who enjoy drinking espresso only, this model might be enough. But let’s be honest, not many users drink pure espressos, and not many drink them daily. There should be other one-touch recipes to satisfy the diverse needs of every user.

That’s why I find Philips 3200 Lattego much more convenient. It has one-touch Americano, cappuccino, and latte macchiato, alongside classic espresso and coffee. Enjoy the convenient recipes of this model.

Cleaning & Maintenance: Philips 3200 Lattego

Cleaning Philips 3200 LatteGo is much easier thanks to its elaborate alarm system. On the interface, I can directly see signs telling when to refill the water tank, when to rinse or descale, or when to clean the brew group.

Also, there is a single button that dedicates to descale and calcification only. If you are sometimes forgetful like me, keeping up with the descaling schedule might be too hectic. Thanks to the alerts and the one-touch descale, it sure is more convenient.

Gaggia Anima vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Similarities

Don’t miss this part to know the similarities between Gaggia Anima and Philips 3200 Lattego.

Water tank capacity

Philips 3200 Lattego and Gaggia Anima are equipped with water tanks of same size: 60.85 oz. With this capacity, we can brew drinks during 2-3 days without having to refill if we only brew once per day.

Can brew preground coffee

On top of the machines, you can locate the bypass dosers where you can put in preground coffee for a quick cup. These are favorable for decaff coffees. But it would help if you kept in mind that the bypass dosers don’t work with powder coffee mixed with milk. This will ruin the machine. Always use 100% preground coffee.
