Jura D6 vs E8: Differences

The Jura E8 wins 2 – 1 against the Jura D6 based on its higher levels of customization, more coffee drinks to choose from, and quiet performance. The Jura D6 is more compact than the Jura E8 with limited coffee drinks and programmable coffee strength, volume, and temperature features.

1. Espresso Taste

The Winner: Jura E8

Coffee Grinder

According to reports, the Aroma G2 grinder is fast and sturdy but the Aroma G3 grinder is faster and quieter. It also produces less coffee ground build-up after grinding, which means less maintenance.

Coffee grounds that stay back inside the grinder can cause clogging and slow down the grinding mechanism of the grinder. It’s happened with entry-level coffee grinders before. And the Aroma G3 corrects this by increasing the grinding speed of the blades. The Aroma G3’s grinder blades cover more surface area inside the grinder to catch and grind every inch of the coffee beans. So nothing gets left behind.

This puts the Jura E8’s Aroma G3 grinder at the forefront of extracting maximum flavor and texture of espresso without limiting the grinder or the strength of espresso. No matter how many times you grind the coffee beans in a day for espresso shots.

Coffee Strength

The Jura E8 has a better value of money with its higher number of coffee strength levels. The Jura D6 features only 4 which for some espresso drinkers should be more than enough. But the Jura E8 gives a better, more nuanced espresso flavor with 10 levels.

Heating System

While both espresso machines come with the same Thermoblock heating system, the levels of temperature controls are different.

Though it’s not a significant difference, the Jura D6 features 2 settings for temperature, the Jura E8 features 3 settings.  I think that considering all the upgrades of the Jura E8, the heating system is more refined with it than on the D6. But you can expect the same speed and consistency in both machines.

2. Dose Control

The Winner: Jura E8

Pre-Ground Coffee

The Jura D6 works only with coffee beans as it has a built-in grinder. You cannot brew pre-ground coffee for decaf or anything. The Jura E8, on the other hand, features a slot for pre-ground coffee.

Based on the price of both machines, especially the Jura E8 which is more expensive than the D6, having two options is better than one! If you run out of coffee beans, the pre-ground coffee slot can save your day.

Programmable Coffees

Moving on, one of the MAJOR DIFFERENCES between the Jura D6 and Jura E8 is the number of coffee drinks they both offer. The Jura D6 comes with 7 varied coffee drinks that you can customize by strength, volume, and temperature.

The Jura E8 comes with 17 different coffee drinks with the same programmable benefits as mentioned above – strength, temperature, and volume.

Here’s what the Jura E8 has that the D6 doesn’t: single and double Ristretto, Macchiato, Espresso Doppio, single and double Special Coffee (up to 6.5 ounces – longest coffee), Flat White, Latte Macchiato, portion milk, and separate hot water for green tea and black coffee.

The Jura D6 offers cappuccino, single and double shot espresso and coffee, milk foam, and hot water.

As you can see, the difference in coffee drinks is reason enough to want to buy the Jura E8 if you prefer better (and more) customization in your daily espresso fix.

3. Utilities

The Winner: Jura D6

Bean Hopper Size

The 7 ounces (200g) bean hopper size of the Jura D6 is smaller so the machine is easier to move around the counter. It comes with a secure lid and sturdy construction.

This rivals the Jura E8’s 10 ounces (280g) bean hopper which is more space-consuming. While it does also have an Aroma Preservation lid to keep the coffee beans fresh for longer.

Dimensions

Let’s talk about the specifics for a change. The Jura D6 features a narrower body and lightweight housing. It measures 11 x 13.6 x 16.5 inches and 19-lbs weight. So it’s lightweight, compact, portable, and perfect for narrower kitchen counters.

The Jura E8, on account of its slightly bigger bean hopper, has 11 x 13.8 x 17.3 inches size dimensions and a 22-lbs weight. So it is slightly heavier to move around if you don’t have much counter space, to begin with.

Jura D6 vs E8: Similarities

Despite their distinct dissimilarities, both the Jura D6 vs E8 feature the PEP espresso extraction technology combined with the same heating system – thermoblock.

You will also find that both have programmable coffee strength, volume, and temperature features for better and quicker control over how espresso tastes. Everyone has their own personal taste so this helps with that.

Jura machines also feature a built-in, fast integrated maintenance program that auto cleans the internal parts regularly. There’s plenty of space in both water tanks (64-ounce capacity) that’ll be plenty good for pulling espresso shots, frothing milk, and flushing out the system completely.

You can keep the drip tray clean and spotless with some hot water. Both machines feature a hot water dispenser.

Another great feature on both machines is that you can customize the texture of milk foam you want, per cup. You can make it with or without texture at a piping hot temperature that is perfect for cappuccinos.
