Jura ENA 8 vs J6: Differences

It’s a tie between the Jura ENA 8 vs J6 (3 – 3). Both have their own strengths that make a home brewer like you a barista in a matter of a few cups of espresso. Both useful and dependable choices for daily brewing that also save you money in the long run over expensive coffee shop bills!

1. Dose Control

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

+Coffee Drinks

Both espresso makers offer an interesting catalogue of espresso drinks. You don’t have to settle or create your own barista-like espresso drinks at home. The machine does that for you, just like a barista, at the touch of a button.

BUT the coffee recipes that the Jura ENA 8 offers are more than the J6. Where the ENA 8 offers 10 drinks, the J6 offers only 7.

The ENA 8 offers ristretto, espresso, macchiato, coffee (long-pressure extraction of espresso), espresso doppio, flat white, cappuccino, latte macchiato, and a portion of milk foam, and hot water. These are excellent choices for anyone looking to bring the delicious aroma and taste of espresso home.

2. Milk System

The Winner: Jura J6

The Jura J6 comes with a programmable milk foam system which is absent in the ENA 8. While both offer adjustable coffee strength and brewing temperatures, the J6 also offers milk customization for temperature and texture control.

The ENA 8’s milk settings are automatic and you can only adjust the portion of milk foam you want based on the drink you select.

The additional advantage of customizing the milk foam on the J6 is impressive. It elevates how well you can brew a cappuccino, latte, or flat white or latte macchiato at home, with the touch of a button.

3. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: It’s A Tie!

+Size

The Jura ENA 8 features a 1-litre water tank that is of comfortable size for any home espresso drinker. The Jura J6, however, comes with a 2.1-litre water tank and that is distinct as it is bigger and slightly more space-unfriendly!

The 2.1-litre water tank accommodates a family’s espresso needs. You need not worry about running out of water as soon as the morning brewing time is complete. You will have plenty of water left to go before refilling.

The same applies to entertaining. Everyone loves a good espresso especially when they’re at a house that has an espresso maker. So the Jura J6 offers a spacious capacity for entertaining. It’s sleek, sturdy, and the water tank, on its own is easy to clean.

But as far as size goes, the Jura ENA 8 is definitely slimmer, more compact, and lightweight. Its 1-litre capacity makes it easy to handle for a few rounds of brewing daily. Nor is the water tank a hassle to refill or clean and maintain.

Despite its smaller capacity, the Jura ENA 8 has a classy, modern design.

The same can be said for both their bean hoppers. The bean hopper is where you store coffee beans to keep them fresh for grinding as peruse. While both espresso makers grind the beans on demand to boost flavour and aroma, the Jura ENA 8 comes with a bean hopper that’s half in size as the J6. It’s 4.4 ounces while the J6 is 8.8 ounces.

This large capacity also extends to the coffee ground container that stores the used coffee pucks. The ENA 8 stores up to 10 coffee servings (coffee pucks) while the J6 stores up to 16 pucks.

4. Utilities

The Winner: It’s A Tie!

+Dual Coffee Spout

Now the Jura J6 lets you brew two drinks simultaneously when those drinks are espresso. So you can brew 2 espressos at the touch of a button and it’ll take only as long as a single cup.

The Jura ENA 8 does not come with this technology. It has a single coffee spout which means it can brew only a single cup of espresso at a time.

This means it’ll take the Jura ENA 8 a minute or two longer to make espresso coffees for 2 people than it would on the J6.

Even so, you can double the volume/strength of espresso in both the ENA 8 and J6 to brew an extra-extra strong espresso. The ENA 8 does grind twice the default volume for a single cup to make the espresso taste bolder and more aromatic in a single cup.

The lack of dual coffee spouts just affects the size and time of brewing, not the strength of the espresso drink you select.

+Cup Clearance

With the ENA 8, you can adjust the coffee spout up to a higher level than the J6. Its cup clearance starts from 2.2 inches up to 5.4 inches. While the J6’s starts from 2.6 inches to 4.4 inches.

Mugs that are an inch taller can fit under the ENA 8’s coffee spout but they won’t on the J6. Considering the design of both espresso makers, the J6 offers an advantage in width, rather than height because you can place 2 espresso cups side by side for double brewing. Meanwhile, with the ENA 8, you cannot double brew like the J6 but you can slide under a tall mug for a longer serving size in one cup.

Jura ENA 8 vs J6: Similarities

1. Brewing Technology

What you can expect from both the ENA 8 and J6 is that they come with the same brewing features. Such as the Pulse Extraction Process, 15 bar pump pressure system, and Thermoblock heating.

This means you can expect really delicious, smooth, and aromatic espresso cup after cup. Be it a serving of espresso concentrated or espresso infused with milk foam. Be it an ounce of espresso or a drink as long as 6 ounces of long-pressured coffee. The taste and consistency will always remain the same, for all kinds of coffee beans, roasts, and caffeinated or decaffeinated.

Speaking of decaf, both espresso makers also feature a by-pass doser for pre-ground coffee. You can add a scoop of coffee powder to make a rich and delicious espresso quicker. You can apply all the customizations to the pre-ground coffee extraction to extract a stronger or lighter flavour of espresso.

2. Smart App-Connect

Jura ENA 8 and J6 are compatible with J.O.E. which is a smart connect app of Jura’s that lets you manage and customize the espresso maker with your smartphone or tablet.

You can choose the drink you like, watch out for cleaning alerts, and customize all the key variables of coffee from your phone. It’s also possible to download this app on your iPad or tablet for better accessibility.
