In the debate of Jura We8 vs X8, I have easily found out the winner after testing how these espresso makers really work. And the result is: Jura We8.
The winner We8 is very stable in every step, from preparing the coffee ground to brewing then cleaning. With its 101oz water tank, the machine makes coffee for an entire family in around 3 days, with a moderated number of outputs per day. The milk frothing also is very impressive. I recommend the model to any homeowner.
Jura X8 has its good sides like the giant 167.3oz water tank, which serves a larger crowd efficiently, and the milk system that, most of the time, froths dry foam for an excellent cup of cappuccino. But there are some faults in its operation that I will point out below.

Jura We8 vs X8: Differences
Jura We8 wins 3 to 1 against Jura X8 thanks to its smooth coffee making and consistent milk frothing process. Everything is excellent, and the cleaning part is easy as well since the machine does most of the work. Please continue to read to find out my experience with the two.
Coffee Flavor: Jura We8
+Grinder
With these espresso makers’ grinders, I don’t encounter any particular problem. With the Aroma G3 technology, we can choose from the 6 settings to grin fine or coarse coffee ground. Since they are conical burr grinders, coffee flavor is maintained to its most authentic spirit.
I have checked the coffee pucks discharged in the used container, and so far, I’m satisfied because the ground is even and smooth.
I want to comment on the sound. We8 and X8 are pretty quiet when it grinds coffee beans, and it doesn’t take long for them to finish the step, which takes around 5s. But, keep in mind that they aren’t the quietest on the market. They still produce a faint screeching sound briefly whenever I hit the brewing button of a recipe. But overall, I’m satisfied sound-wise.
+Dosing + tamping
Any Jura machine uses a 5-16g dose, but I’m aware that each model has a different way to work it. Firstly, the dosing and tamping are 100% automatic, all we have to do is hit a button, and We8 or X8 handle the rest.
But, I have tested the flavor of their espressos by setting up the machines in the same dose amount and using the same beans. The results are surprisingly different.
With We8, I get a more robust and slightly more bitter espresso flavor but still is balanced in general. For me, I prefer the flavor quality that We8 offers since I like strong coffee. Many people think that the word “bitter” is negative when it’s used to describe coffee. But, if a cup of coffee lacks a slight touch of bitterness, it loses its punch.
With X8, the flavor is smoother and more mellow. The bitter tinge isn’t as noticeable either. So this model suits users who don’t like strong coffees more.
+Heating system
X8 actually has a better heating system which consists of 2 Thermoblocks, while We8 uses 1 Thermoblock only, which explains the differences in coffee and milk temperature that these models can deliver.
With X8, the coffee temperature is very hot (187-195F), and we can achieve this level by heating up the machine 5 minutes beforehand.
With We8, I have noticed that some users have reviewed its not-so-hot coffee temperature, and I tried to brew 5 minutes after starting it up, the same as I do with X8. As a result, it’s true that the temp isn’t as hot (around 180F).
From my experience with coffee machines, I leave Jura We8 to heat up longer, from 10 to 15 minutes, and the temperature rises to the ideal level, like X8.
Utilities: Jura X8
The X8 has a bigger water tank, bigger used coffee container, and bigger bean hopper capacity. Overall, this machine is ideal for small offices or catering services. Its maximum daily output recommendation is 80, which means that Jura X8 functions smoothly if you brew under 80 servings of coffee per day.
With We8, this number is 30. So this model is more compact, and it is more suitable for homeowners and, overall, non-commercial purposes. The quality of coffee and the consistency that Jura We8 offers are impressive, especially for its price.
Milk system: Jura We8
I find Jura We8 milk system better since the one on X8 has many errors. Initially, I was more impressed by the milk system of X8 since the model delivered drier and airier milk foam that I enjoy. But over time, X8 started developing problems. For example, it mixes too much water with milk to make steamed milk, and the flavor goes mediocre instead of being rich and creamy.
We8 froths more damp milk which is not the best for cappuccino. But it definitely is creamy and smooth, perfect for latte and flat white. What I like is the consistency. Cups after cups, Jura We8 gives well-steamed milk and milk foam.
Cleaning & Maintain: Tie
These machines auto-clean themselves when we turn them on or off. A hot burst of water is pushed through the system to rinse out whatever is left in it. You might think that this is too frequently or too inconvenient but believe me that it is worth it.
The auto-purge system helps cleanse the brew group and make sure that there is no milk or bad went-off coffee that goes back to the water tank and spoils the system in the long run. Fixing the devices will be hectic then.
Jura We8 vs X8: Similarities
There are some slight similarities between Jura We8 and X8. Continue to read for more details.
Big water tank
Both espresso machines have a large water tank. We8 is equipped with a 101oz, while X8 comes with a 167.3 oz. From the size, you can tell that X8 is more ideal for commercial purposes or catering events, while We8 is designed with homeowners’ necessities in mind.
But, judging from the stability of these models, I believe there are other machines more suitable for commercial purposes than X8. As for Jura We8, it is a total package for home use, and I think you will find this machine very valuable for its price.
Variable brewing temperature in 2 levels
You can adjust the brewing temperature of both machines, and they offer 2 different settings. But, setting the temperature at high always is more convenient. If you prefer hot coffee, wait for the devices to prep longer. And if you like warm coffees that can be drunk right away, brew quickly after you start up the machines.
