After only a few brewing sessions, I have found the winner between Nespresso Citiz vs Pixie. Both models brew tasty coffee, but De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ is the true winner.
De’Longhi Nespresso Citiz is a compact espresso machine with a standard 30.4 oz water tank. It offers aromatic, strong, and fresh coffee flavor with a nice layer of crema. The temperature is good, and the heat-up time is quick. Overall, I’m impressed with what it offers, and I think it is a good deal for any user, especially couples.
As for De’Longhi Nespresso Pixie, it can extract flavorful espressos while keeping the noise low. The design is very compact, so this model is perfect for a small kitchen stand or counter. I recommend it to single users who don’t want to spend too much on espresso machines.

Nespresso Citiz vs Pixie: Differences
De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ wins 3 to 1 against De’Longhi Nespresso Pixie thanks to its fantastic coffee flavor, convenient two-tier drip tray, and sleek and straightforward capsule slot design. You can check how these espresso makers work for real below.
Coffee Flavor: Tie
+Heating system
Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi brew espressos using the same Thermoblock heating technology. Since capsule machines prioritize efficiency, Thermoblock is the perfect option as a heating system.
I usually wait 2 minutes to heat up since I prefer my coffee hot. But from what I see, these machines stick very close to their advertisements, those that say that they only need 30 seconds to heat up. After 30 seconds of preparing the devices, I get quite a good coffee temperature.
+Brewing technique
Both models apply 19-bars pump pressure to extract espressos and coffees. But I notice that Pixie makes a thicker layer of crema than Citiz. Flavor-wise, the performance is very much alike. I get robust and fresh drinks with consistency.
Furthermore, unlike many new machines that I purchased, I don’t notice any strong plastic smell from my espressos.
Utilities: De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ
De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ boasts of a 2-tiers drip tray that accommodates different cup heights. On the contrary, Pixie only has one foldable drip tray, and the design of the machine itself is compact, so it simply isn’t designed for large and tall cups.
Nevertheless, the pair shares some useful features like flow stop or automatic shut-off. Capsule machines are effortless to manage. So with these extra convenient additional features, even first-timers won’t have a hard time getting used to them.
Cleaning & Maintain: Tie
Cleaning Nespresso machines is easy since we need to put a cleaning capsule in and hit any brewing button. The special cleaning solution alongside high water pressure and temperature makes a perfect combo for rinsing any leftover odor or coffee.
I suggest you clean the drip trays of Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi daily and manually. I don’t see any instruction that says these are dishwasher-friendly, but all we have to do is dump the residue and clean the trays with regular dish soap.
Design & Material: De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ
I’m not a fan of the lever design, and unfortunately, De’Longhi Nespresso Pixie has it. Pulling the lever to open the capsule slot seems cool at first, but over time, I find it not so convenient since it takes up more space and it kind of blocks my hand from putting a capsule in from certain angles.
With De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ, I can enjoy its standard design with a basic capsule slot with a compact lid.
Material-wise, Citiz is made of plastic and stainless steel, while Pixie is made of plastic and aluminum.
Nespresso Citiz vs Pixie: Similarities
The Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi share a few similarities, but I want to comment on the most important two. Let’s take a look.
Quick heat-up time
It doesn’t take long to get Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi up to the optimal temperature since they are capsule machines. They usually start up within 30 seconds. I prefer to leave them on for 1 or 2 minutes to ensure that the espresso temperature is hot.
No milk system
Given that these are capsule machines, they don’t have a milk system, and we have to buy an external one. If you have a trusty-favorite milk frother beforehand, purchasing a machine that focuses on espresso-only is a good idea.
